Christ the Redeemer

Rising above the violence that sometimes plagues areas of the city below is Christ the Redeemer.  The team visited the monument on Monday morning.

As the team, accompanied by Brazillian guide Shmuel, disembarked from the tram, which crawls up the side of the mountain,  they were greeted by a small samba ensemble.  A quick jog up the steps reveals a fantastic view the city, bay and mountains below.

The sheer size of the statue itself hits you as you approach it from behind.

Chris was particularly surprised to find out that the assistant in the shop at the bottom knew all about Bolton Wanderers!
